D Sisive_ Planet Mars (by Charles Officer)

Planet Mars was an important venue for Toronto’s underground hip hop scene in the mid-nineties. I used to frequent this event with friends of mine who also made music (Danilo McCallum, Paul Sackichand) as a high school student on the weekend. It was a energetic event in a grimy underground bar close to Kensington Market in downtown Toronto. It was the first time I got introduced to hip hop in Toronto that wasn’t just my friends and people who went to Oakwood Collegiate. This short film shot by Charles Officer creatively explores some of the history and some of the players who created and frequented the now historic hip hop night (shout out to Planet Pea).
