People who attended my listening celebration, Gathering No. 1, on September 9th experienced Loft 404 first hand. Loft 404 is an interesting space in downtown Toronto that was conceived, created and cultivated by Genna Bauder. When my friend Kate Fraser called me up one night and said “I’m at this place, I think you should come” I went to experience something that was reminiscent of Anitafrika Dub Theatre in spirit. Unfortunately Anitafrika Dub Theatre is not in Toronto anymore but D’bi Young, it’s founder is still doing her thing with YEMOYA in South Africa but loft 404 is a developing space in Toronto that has the potential to facilitate similar activities. Check out Loft 404 if you’re in Toronto and check out YEMOYA online or if you are in South Africa, positive/productive space is fundamental to community building.
